Big Boyz Jamaican Restaurant Review – Melbourne, FL

Big Boyz Jamaican Restaurant, owned by Clayton and Janelle Brissett, has been serving up authentic island flavors since opening their first location in Vero Beach in the summer of 2023. The success there was undeniable, with locals quickly embracing the bold spices, rich aromas, and genuine hospitality that define the Big Boyz experience. When an opportunity came to expand into Melbourne, Clayton seized the chance, bringing his passion for Jamaican cuisine to a new community.

From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere wraps you in warmth—both from the friendly smiles and the tantalizing scent of jerk spices, simmering curries, and slow-cooked meats. The menu showcases Jamaican classics like tender Jerk Chicken, savory Curry Goat, and melt-in-your-mouth Oxtails, all prepared with the care and authenticity that make every bite memorable. Portions are generous, flavors are bold, and the food is as much a celebration of Jamaican culture as it is a meal.

K&R Natural Blend Guava Pineapple Juice at Big Boyz Jamaican Restaurant in Melbourne, FL

The first thing I sampled was one of their K&R Natural Blend Juices, made fresh in-house. With several varieties to choose from—like cucumber & ginger, beets & ginger, natural carrot blend, green juice, and guava pineapple—there’s a refreshing option for every taste. I went with the Guava Pineapple, and it was bursting with tropical flavor. Light, fresh, and perfectly balanced, it delivered natural sweetness without being overpowering, making it the perfect beverage to enjoy with my meal.

Jamaican Spicy Beef Patty at Big Boyz Jamaican Restaurant in Melbourne, FL

The Jamaican Spicy Beef Patty is one of my personal favorites, and I make sure to order one every time I visit. The golden pastry shell is light and flaky, giving way to a flavorful filling of tender, well-seasoned beef. The spice level is just right—enough to deliver a satisfying kick without overpowering the rich, savory flavor of the meat. It’s a true Jamaican classic and an absolute must-try on the menu.

Fried Chicken Thighs with shredded vegetable side and pigeon peas rice at Big Boyz Jamaican Restaurant in Melbourne, FL

The Fried Chicken Thighs (bone-in) were a first for me at Big Boyz, and I was eager to see how they stacked up. The chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside, with just a hint of spice. It’s served with a shredded vegetable side that might look simple, but is full of flavor—I took one bite expecting not to be impressed and ended up finishing it before touching the rest of the plate. The pigeon peas and seasoned rice (Arroz Con Gandules), served with every entrée, is another standout, delivering a comforting, well-seasoned bite that ties the whole dish together.

Jerk Chicken at Big Boyz Jamaican Restaurant in Melbourne, FL

The Jerk Chicken is their most popular dish and best seller—and it’s easy to see why. The flavor profile is spectacular, blending sweet, slightly spicy, tangy, and savory notes all in one bite. The chicken was tender and juicy, cooked to perfection with that signature jerk seasoning that lingers just enough to make you want another forkful. It’s a standout version of this Jamaican classic that will keep you coming back for more.

Curried Goat with pigeon peas rice at Big Boyz Jamaican Restaurant in Melbourne, FL

If you’re feeling a bit adventurous, the Curried Goat is a must-try. The meat is slow-simmered until it’s fork-tender, absorbing a rich curry blend of spices that adds depth, warmth, and an earthy complexity to every bite. The sauce is thick and aromatic, clinging to the meat and soaking into the pigeon peas and seasoned rice served alongside it. Each mouthful delivers a comforting yet bold taste of Jamaica, making it a dish well worth stepping outside your comfort zone for. (Foodie tip: ask for extra gravy over the rice—it takes the flavor to the next level).

Ox Tail with pigeon peas rice at Big Boyz Jamaican Restaurant in Melbourne, FL

The Ox Tail is another great choice for the adventurous eater. Despite the name, these are simply slow-simmered cow tails, cooked for hours to break down the connective tissue and tenderize the meat. That long cooking time results in rich, deep flavor and meat that practically melts in your mouth. While it takes a bit of work to eat around the bones, those who take the time are rewarded with some of the most tender, flavorful bites you’ll ever experience—truly unlike anything else you’ve tried.
