Center City Tavern Restaurant Review

I heard this place has a new chef running the kitchen, and with several recommendations from my friends in the hospitality industry that I should stop by and check this place out, I figured it was time to see what the hype is all about. Owners, John and Roger, opened Center City Tavern about 2 years ago and describe their place as a sports bar with really good food. Their customers, many of them loyal from the previous tenant Beef o’ Brady’s, often reference that this place reminds them of the “Cheers” bar from the TV show. Checking out the menu, you will notice that it’s inspired by foods popular in the Philly area with several Rocky themed burgers. The menu is quite diverse and offers a nice variety of items to please most anyone, but they are known for their deep dish pizzas. One in particular that was recommended to me by several people is the Philly. It’s a thick crust white pie with thinly sliced ribeye, mushrooms, onions, and peppers. It was awesome!

Now let’s dive right in and see what this place has to offer and what I had to eat!

Front Entrance
Dining Room & Bar
Land & Sea Sampler – This platter includes three fried scallops, two southwestern egg rolls, three fried shrimp, and five jalapeno poppers, with a side of Drago dipping sauce. Everything was perfectly fried and not greasy at all. Believe it or not, this was the first time I’ve ever tried jalapeno poppers! The Drago sauce is similar to a remoulade sauce with a hint of horseradish.
Chicken Pot Pie Tater – A creamy chicken sauce with grilled chicken, carrots & peas is poured over an extra large baked potato. The picture doesn’t do the size of this potato justice. This is a normal size dinner plate just for reference. The potato was perfectly cooked and the chicken pot pie filling was creamy and delicious!
The Philly Deep Dish Pizza – A white pie is topped with shaved ribeye, grilled onions, mushrooms, and green peppers. As stated above, this is one of their most popular items and it definitely didn’t disappoint. The crust is surprisingly light and airy, the white sauce has a creamy American cheese flavor, and the ribeye was plentiful. So good!
Pineapple Upside Down Cake – Yellow cake is topped with pineapple and maraschino cherries. One of my all time favorite desserts!
