For the experience, I allow my guests to choose which restaurant they would like to dine at, or I can choose for them. In this case, they suggested Chuck’s Seafood because they had never been, and neither had I, so we picked a date and all met for dinner. Chuck’s is located in Fort Pierce on Seaway Drive and backs up to the Fort Pierce Inlet. Parking was quite plentiful, but they still had a parking lot attendant that provided assistance, which was a nice touch. I arrived a bit early to take pictures around the outside, the water view, and inside before my guests arrived. Upon entry into the restaurant, you step into the main bar, with the hostess stand on right, which was a little hard to see because it was tucked in the corner. I checked in for our reservation, and they showed me to our table. The dining room and outdoor patio are up a flight of stairs. The dining room is quite large and had beautiful 180-degree views of the inlet, which was really nice! I took a seat and waited for my guests. Upon arrival, we discussed the experience and what was included. They wanted me to select all the dishes of the night, and I was happy to do so. Being that this is a seafood restaurant, I thought it was only fitting we try several of their most popular seafood dishes.

Now let’s dive right in and see what this place has to offer and what WE had to eat!

My guests for the evening, starting from the left: Ben, Heather, Thomas, Andrea, and Kenny.

Hush Puppies – We didn’t order these, the waitress just brought them out for us, so I assume it’s their version of bread service. These hush puppies were quite delicious! Fried till golden brown, and still light and fluffy on the inside. The table consensus was that these were some of the best we have ever tasted!

Crabmeat Stuffed Mushrooms topped with Hollandaise – Love me some stuffed mushrooms! The crab filling was creamy and quite generous. The hollandaise added a nice pop of fresh lemon to the dish.

Fried Lobster Bites – As our waitress was telling us about the nightly specials and she mentioned this appetizer. I didn’t see it on the regular menu, so it may have been a special just for the night. They were lightly fried yet had that satisfying crunch when taking a bite. A remoulade sauce and drawn butter were served alongside.

Chuck’s Famous Fried Shrimp – As one of the more popular dishes on their menu, we definitely had to try them. They were butterflied, twisted (how do they do that?), and coated with a lightly seasoned breading. They were fried till golden as you can see from the picture above, and the shrimp were cooked perfectly. A side of tartar sauce was served alongside, but we thought cocktail sauce would have been a better option.

Crabmeat Stuffed Shrimp topped with Hollandaise – The shrimp are topped with a crab stuffing mix, broiled, and then topped with Hollandaise sauce. These were one of the table favorites of the night! The crabmeat stuffing had a good amount of crab in it, and it was seasoned nicely. The Hollandaise sauce was bright and lemony.

Chuck’s Broiled Seafood Combo (fish, shrimp, scallops) -Since we already tried a few previous fried dishes, I decided on the broiled seafood combo platter as our final entree of the evening. I was a little disappointed with the dish. While I know seafood prices are rising, I thought the portion size was a bit smaller than I expected for the price paid. The fish filet was moist but didn’t flake apart as easily as I had hoped it would.

All in all, still a great overall dining experience taking into consideration the location, great service, and the majority of the dishes we sampled were definitely worthy of a return visit.

  1. Sounds like appetizers were bigger hits than the entrees. Is there either a Happy Hour or early Bird? I have not been there for about 20 years. Need to stop by soon. Riverfront and harbors and marinas are really showing signs of newly vitalized Ft. Pierce. Was not thrilled with new place, Crabby’s. Also wondering what new construction will do to Buoy12A. But, will do Chuck’s soon.
