Foodie Meetup at Red Wok

I once had a fortune cookie with the Chinese proverb: “He who asks is a fool for 5 minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.” If the question is whether or not to check out Vero Beach’s newest Chinese restaurant, Red Wok Chinese Vietnamese Cuisine, then the answer is YES!

I joined several friends on May 17th for the Treasure Coast Foodie Event at Red Wok. The restaurant was light and bright, and our server was very attentive, as was the owner, who made her rounds to check on all of us.

The food for our group was set up buffet style, with several dishes to choose from. Here is what I tried, and my impression of it:

Egg Roll– Just the right amount of crisp without the oily texture sometimes present. The substantial filling tasted fresh and well balanced, and the top-notch hot mustard sauce complemented the egg roll perfectly!

Crab Rangoon/Cheese Wontons– While light and crispy, a little more filling would have elevated the flavor.

Combo Fried Rice– beef, chicken, and shrimp all included. The rice was light and freshly made with generous chunks of meat and shrimp. The dish was very flavorful without being over seasoned.

Shrimp Lo Mein– I was glad there was a noodle dish to try as well. The noodles were wide and sturdy and held up well to the ample protein portion and coated sauce.

A few more dishes served on the night of the event

Beef with Broccoli
Tempura Fried Chicken – This was for the Lemon Chicken, sauce served on the side.

I have read many reviews online for Red Wok, some of them written in the first week they were open. There are going to be things to work out when any restaurant is new, it’s just the nature of the beast. If you enjoy Chinese and Vietnamese food, and you like supporting family-owned businesses, I say go and check it out. I will definitely be back.

I am a retired school teacher who recently relocated from Denver with my husband, Curt. One of our favorite things to do is try new restaurants. The Treasure Coast does not disappoint! I also like to utilize my teaching skills along with my wine knowledge (Level 2 Executive Sommelier) by hosting wine education / tasting events.
