I am always thrilled when new restaurants open in Indian River County. Mom and Pop and one-of-a-kind restaurants are vital for our economy and keep the money you spend dining out in our local community. With so many new places opening recently, I have decided to continue my series with a third installment. To catch up on the first two parts, which were published in April and May of 2022, CLICK HERE

In the past six months, there has been a significant increase in the number of Mexican restaurants in Indian River County. One of the most highly anticipated restaurants to open is Casa Amigos, which has already gained a reputation for its positive reviews at its Port St Lucie location. Despite facing multiple delays, it took over 15 months for the new location in Vero Beach to open. To make matters worse, they opened on the same day as Hurricane Nicole hit the area. As with any new restaurant, there have been a few growing pains. Reviews in our Facebook foodie groups have been mixed, and a few mentioning higher than average prices. I hope that Casa Amigos will be able to overcome its initial challenges and establish itself as a staple in the local Mexican dining scene.

Unagi Don Grilled Eel Rice Bowl – I always like to roll the dice and pick a different dish each time. The dish starts with a mound of rice in the bottom of the bowl, then thinly sliced grilled eel is layered over the rice and topped with seaweed and scallions.

The location has recently had a lot of changes in ownership lately, and I lost confidence in it after my friend, Chef Beam, left. However, I rediscovered it again after seeing a new sign on the building. My friend, Miss Saigon, told me she was now managing the property and suggested I give it a try. The exterior of the building hasn’t changed much (just the sign), but once inside, it feels like you’re in Thailand due to the beautiful new decorations. The owner, Jutiyapond McCarthy, is originally from Thailand and had a successful restaurant there before moving to Vero to be closer to family. The restaurant was clean and the service was excellent, with the staff being attentive to customer needs and food is served quickly.
