Location & Atmosphere

Don’t let Ocean Republic Brewing’s modest exterior fool you—inside, you’ll find a spacious, laid-back atmosphere that’s perfect for grabbing a drink and catching up with friends. Opened in 2019 as Stuart’s first independent craft brewery with a scratch kitchen, the locally owned brewery features 16 rotating beers brewed exclusively on-site and inspired by the Florida lifestyle. Originally founded by Chris and Amanda Cischke, Ocean Republic is now owned by Alex and Anne-Marie, a Canadian couple from Quebec who have proudly called the Treasure Coast home for more than 12 years. Pair one of their house-brewed beers with something from the scratch kitchen, and it’s easy to see why this casual spot has become a local favorite.

Now, onto the food.

Sunset Swell

We kicked things off with the Sunset Swell, a Cranberry Pomegranate Witbier that instantly became one of my favorites. Brewed with Indian coriander, sweet orange peel, cranberry, and pomegranate, it’s light, crisp, and incredibly refreshing with just a subtle hint of spice. I could definitely taste the orange and pomegranate, and despite its fruity flavor, it wasn’t overly sweet. It was easy to drink and felt like the perfect beer for a Florida summer. For non-drinkers, Ocean Republic also offers an impressive selection of $8 mocktails, making it easy for everyone to join in on the fun.

Tuna Nachos

The Tuna Nachos arrived beautifully presented and disappeared just as quickly. Crispy wonton chips were topped with freshly seared ahi tuna, creamy avocado, and a fresh wakame salad, then finished with a generous chipotle mayo drizzle. The ahi tuna was incredibly fresh and juicy, while the smoky chipotle mayo paired perfectly with the brewery’s house-made ponzu sauce, crafted with their Tropical Breeze beer. Although I usually sample a few bites before moving on, I ended up clearing the entire plate. Light, flavorful, and perfect for sharing, this was easily one of my favorite dishes of the evening.

Basic Poutine

I’d heard plenty of good things about the poutine before visiting, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. A beloved Canadian classic (and Quebec’s national dish), the Basic Poutine features crispy French fries topped with authentic Quebec cheese curds and smothered in a rich, savory brown gravy. The gravy was the real standout, soaking into the fries without making them soggy, while the cheese curds added the perfect bite. Comfort food at its finest. If you’re looking to switch things up, Ocean Republic also offers creative variations like The Porky Poutine and Mexican Poutine.

Orb Smash Burger

Come hungry if you’re ordering the Orb Smash Burger. Stacked with two smashed beef patties cooked with shaved onions, American cheese, pickles, lettuce, tomatoes, and a generous spread of house-made chipotle mayo, it’s every bit as indulgent as it sounds. The burger was juicy, flavorful, and absolutely massive—I ended up splitting it with my husband and still left satisfied. Paired with a side of crispy, perfectly cooked fries, it was the ultimate comfort-food meal.
