Sailfish Brewing Company – Restaurant Review

I can’t believe it’s been nearly 4 years since my last visit to Sailfish Brewing Company. A lot has changed during that time with a complete renovation of the tap room. They took out the centrally located bar and pushed it towards the back wall. While they lost a few bar seats, they gained the much needed floor space to add more tables. The room also feels more open and inviting too! Behind the bar you will find the brew room where they make, bottle, can, and keg all of their beer for distribution. Downtown Ft Pierce always seems to have a problem with parking, but you can usually find spots behind the brewery or along the street. A block over and on the West side of the train tracks is a parking garage with free parking to help during the busier times. Craft breweries were hit hard earlier this year when Covid-19 hit and they were forced to shutdown. Those with food could stay open, so with the previous tenant that ran The Crafted Pie shutting down, this gave them the opportunity to adapt and re-open under their own name and offer food. With the new menu in place, I thought I would stop by and check it out.

Flight of 4 Beers – Descriptions below from Left to Right

#1 – Sailfish Lager – Helles | ABV – 4.8%

Tasting Notes:  Aroma was subtle, light, crisp, an easy drinking beer.  It pours crystal clear with a light golden color. It’s a mainstream style lager with a light bready finish. Suggested Food Pairing – 2nd St Gorgonzola Fries

#2 – Fish Whistle – Pale Ale American | ABV – 5.7%

Tasting Notes:  Aroma was subtle, light, crisp, with notes of grain and hay.  It was sweet up front with a hoppy finish. Suggested Food Pairing – Caprese Flatbread pizza.

#3 – Pineapple Man – IPA Imperial / Double | ABV – 9.3%

Tasting Notes:  Aroma was subtle, amber in color, crisp, not as bitter as I thought for a DIPA. Needs a bit more pineapple flavor in my opinion. Suggested Food Pairing – Hot Honey Pepperoni pizza.

Crispy Chicken Salad – Large bowl of fresh greens topped with Tomato, Red Onion, Crumbled Feta and Shredded Cheddar Cheese. Chicken was served hot and had good seasoning. Lettuce and veggies were fresh and had good flavor.
2nd Street Gorgonzola Fries – Waffle fries are topped with gorgonzola crumbles, bacon, caramelized onions, parsley, and topped with a housemade Gruyere cheese sauce. The fries were soft with crisp edges, the combination of the two cheeses paired nicely together, and just the right amount of balsamic drizzle to add another layer of sweet & tangy flavor!
Caprese Flat Bread Pizza – It’s made with mozzarella, tomatoes, fresh basil, and a drizzle of balsamic glaze over the top. The crust was the real star here, it was perfectly baked, soft on top and crunchy on the bottom. I’m still thinking about my first bite, the tomatoes were so fresh and tasty!
Hot Honey Pepperoni Pizza – The crust is a hand tossed style and topped with classic red sauce, pepperoni, mozzarella cheese, housemade hot honey sauce, and arugula. I’ve been craving a pepperoni pizza lately, so I decided to order this one. I’ve also never tried Hot Honey before, so the thought combination of salty, sweet, and heat sounded good! The crust had a nice chew and the slices held up well when picked up. Portion size is just perfect for 2 people!
Housemade Donut Holes – Donuts are dusted with cinnamon sugar. Sauce on the side is made with their Hyon Chai Beer. The donuts were fresh and served hot. The sauce tasted like Christmas with notes of cinnamon and spice. Truth be told, I really wanted to drink it, but I restrained myself. 😉
