Siam Orchid Thai & Japanese Restaurant Review – Melbourne, Florida

Craving Thai and Japanese? At Siam Orchid, you don’t have to choose. This Melbourne gem blends both cuisines, offering an extensive menu filled with lunch and dinner specials to satisfy every craving.
Siam Orchid has been under new management for the past year, now led by Nila, who is eager to welcome both loyal customers and first-time visitors. Located on E NASA Blvd, just off S Babcock St, Siam Orchid is easy to spot with its large stand-alone sign at the entrance.
As you step through the front doors, you’re met with booth-style tables and a clear view of the sushi bar in the background. To your right, the host’s station is ready to greet guests, answer questions, and guide you to your table. A larger dining area toward the back accommodates the lunch and dinner rush. The restaurant decor focuses on Thai and Japanese culture, with artifacts lining the bar awning and a banner of “maneki-neko”, the iconic Japanese “beckoning cat” known to bring good luck.
Come hungry and prepared—the menu is massive. I started my meal with the Golden Trio, a deep-fried sampler platter featuring Fried Gyoza, Chicken Spring Rolls, and Krab Rangoons, served with a sweet plum dipping sauce. The standout was the spring rolls—light, crispy, and packed with a savory filling that paired perfectly with the plum sauce. I also tried two of their specialty drinks. The Thai Milk Tea was decadently sweet and creamy, with bold spices shining through. The Lemon Blue Bliss, a mix of Thai Butterfly Pea Tea and fresh lemonade, was a refreshing balance of citrus and sweetness.
Siam Orchid is especially popular for its lunch specials. I ordered the Kapow, a stir-fried minced protein dish cooked in a spicy garlic sauce with basil leaves, topped with a fried egg, and served over white rice. I opted for beef, and the flavors were outstanding. The fragrant basil and heat from the spices complemented the rich, tender meat, while the egg and warm rice tied everything together for a satisfying, comforting dish.

My next special was a Build Your Own Lunch Bento Box, a great option for those who want both sushi and a warm Thai dish. My choices: Volcano Chicken, Shrimp Tempura, and a Salmon Roll. The sushi was fresh and generously sized. The shrimp tempura, slightly sweet, paired beautifully with the creamy avocado. The volcano chicken was a delightful surprise—crispy, slightly sweet from Thai Chiles, with just the right amount of heat. A safe yet great choice for first-time visitors.
For my main sushi roll, I went with a customer favorite: the Sea of Love Roll. This roll is packed with spicy tuna, avocado, asparagus, scallions, and masago, then topped with red tuna, tempura flakes, ponzu sauce, kimchi sauce, eel sauce, and spicy mayo. The presentation was stunning, with vibrant colors and textures arranged atop an artfully cut palm leaf. The flavors were just as impressive—crunchy tempura flakes added texture to the soft fish, while the combination of spicy, umami, and a hint of sweetness from the mayo made for a perfectly balanced bite. This is a must-try for any sushi lover.
Siam Orchid is the kind of place you’ll keep coming back to because there’s always something new to try. Their mix of traditional and innovative dishes, like Rangoon Mozzarella Sticks, sets them apart from other spots. Add in friendly service, and it’s easy to see why it will quickly become your go-to sushi and Thai destination.
