The Grill Restaurant Review

Southwest Vero has been in desperate need of a fast casual restaurant as long as I can remember, so I was happy to hear about this new place that just opened up about a year ago off Oslo Road. At first I thought, what the heck is a landscape nursery doing opening a restaurant? I wondered if the menu would be all “plant” based! LOL!!! During my visit, I had a chance to sit down with the family to find out why they decided to open a restaurant. They told me that they all love food, and they wanted to start and run their very first restaurant together. With no prior restaurant experience, they are doing quite well considering, and even good enough to win the United Against Poverty’s Burgers & Brews judges pick for Best Burger in Vero Beach! Their menu offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner options 7 days a week with a few plant based, vegetarian, and several meat-based dishes. If you’ve been by recently, there is a building that is under construction that will become a fruit & vegetable market that will also serve ice cream, which they hope will be completed in early 2023.

Now let’s dive right in and see what this place has to offer and what I had to eat!

Outdoor Covered Seating Area

Plant Based Breakfast Burrito – Made with a soft flour tortilla stuffed with a tofu scramble, home fries, peppers & onions, plant-based sausage, and plant-based cheese. I’m not usually a fan of vegan dishes because they lack flavor, but this one was quite tasty! The tofu scramble didn’t have the usual weird texture you usually get with it, and the vegan sausage was quite convincing in both flavor and texture. I did request a side of salsa and sour cream to further enhance the flavor experience.

Chicken-n-Waffle Sliders – Southern fried chicken is served on fluffy waffle wedges, with a side of syrup and sausage gravy. Nothing says Southern Comfort like chicken & waffles! The waffles were freshly made, as was the chicken, and both had a nice crunch on the outside. The waffles were soft and fluffy on the inside.

Chicken Salad – Homemade chicken salad is served on your choice of bread with green leaf lettuce and tomato. It’s very similar to a Waldorf style chicken salad, only without the walnuts in it. The chicken salad tasted quite fresh and was not over dressed with mayo.

Philly Cheese Steak – Classic Philly cheese steak with peppers, mushrooms, onions, and topped with provolone cheese on a traditional roll. If you have a hearty appetite, this is the one to order, as it’s quite large. The meat, mushrooms, peppers and onions were all cooked and seasoned to perfection. The roll was fantastic, nicely toasted and held up well when taking a bite. I did suggest that they offer the “Liquid gold” cheese for those customers who want it a little more authentic, so you can get a side of it if you wish for a small upcharge.

Classic Cheeseburger – All beef Angus burger is topped with your choice of cheese, green leaf lettuce, tomato, red onion, served on a toasted bun. If you happen to be walking up to the restaurant when they are cooking burgers, the wonderful aroma tends to drift towards the parking lot, tempting you even before you order one! The burger was cooked to temp and was seasoned nicely. The bun, as well as the veggies were very fresh and tasty! The waffle fries were crunchy on the outside, yet soft and tender on the inside.
