Wes’ Backyard BBQ & Grill – Restaurant Review

As a huge fan of BBQ, and an avid backyard “Pit Master” myself, I’m always looking for great BBQ joints to check out. I don’t always have the time to babysit my own smoker, so it’s nice to have options that are just as good, if not better than my own to just grab and go. Located next to the Vero Beach High School stadium off of 16th St is Wes’ Backyard BBQ & Grill. Owners, Wes and Michele Garcia opened this place about 3 1/2 years ago. Wes is a well “Seasoned” Pit Master and serves up some of the best Southern style BBQ in the area. Wes like to keep things interesting and he is not afraid to get creative in the kitchen. Often times you will find a non-BBQ special on the menu to keep it fresh and the customers coming back for more. Conch Fritters – Flash fried and served with a Teriyaki Caribbean Sauce. They were crunchy on the outside, soft and tender inside. The sauce was sweet and tangy!
Cuban Sandwich – Made on Cuban bread that is baked in house, the sandwich is layered with sliced ham, shredded smoked pork, Swiss cheese, pickles, and yellow mustard. The bread is super fresh and the smoky pork definitely sets it apart from other Cuban’s around town. The amount of mustard was just enough to let you know its there, but not overwhelm and be the dominant flavor.
Fried Catfish – Wild caught catfish fillets are breaded and fried, and served with your choice of sides. The fish was perfectly cooked, nice and light just the way I like it. The fish was flaky and moist. This is a new item on the menu and is now available.
Smoked Meatloaf – This is one of Wes’ signature dishes! Portion size is also huge, so you won’t leave hungry. Flavor is good with a nice smokiness to it. Served with two sides of your choice.
Baby Back Ribs – The ribs are smoked for several hours until tender. When taking a bite, the ribs are easy to bite through and don’t fall off the bone. To me, fall off the bone is over cooked, so these are just perfect! The ribs come only seasoned with a dry rub, so you can choose one of their five housemade sauces to put on them. Served with two sides of your choice.
Sea Salt Caramel Chocolate Cream Pie – Wes’ wife, Michele is getting crafty in the kitchen and is now making desserts! It was sweet, creamy, and quite delicious! You gotta try a slice next time you dine here!
