As one of the largest craft brewers on the Treasure Coast, Sailfish first opened their doors 9 years ago in Fort Pierce in what is known today as Pierced Cider Works. They quickly outgrew that location and moved to the large warehouse on 2nd Ave which gave them ample room to grow and brew large quantities of craft beer. In their quest for world craft beer domination, they decided to expand into Indian River County, and they just opened their first craft beer outpost in October 2021 at the south end of Ocean Drive in the Portales De Vero shopping mall. While they are not actually brewing in Indian River County yet, eight of their most popular beers are on tap with hopes soon to brew a few specialty beers just for the Vero location. The taproom also includes a small, but capable kitchen with a brand-new chef and menu to tempt your taste buds! The menu features light bites along with a few more filling items like flat breads, a poke bowl, and a smash burger, so you can skip dinner before-hand and head straight to the brewery.

(Left to Right) – Sailfish Lager (ABV 4.8% | IBU 20), White Marlin Wit (ABV 5% | IBU 17), Sunrise City IPA (7% ABV | 77 IBU), Hyon Chai (5.4% ABV | n/a IBU)

Boiled Peanuts – Unshelled peanuts are boiled in Tag and Release ale, with red pepper, garlic, and cayenne pepper. I’ve never understood why people like them. I’ve never been a fan, but I tried them with an open mind. They were of the highest quality that I have personally tried, but I still don’t like them. If you are a fan, then I’m sure these will be right up your ally!

Chicken Salad Lettuce Wraps – Chicken salad, spiced nuts, bleu cheese, Bibb lettuce, pickled onion, cranberry. It’s nice to see a low carb option on the menu. The lettuce was super fresh as was the chicken salad. I really liked the addition of the sweet-dried cranberries and the tang of the pickled onions, which gave it a well-balanced flavor profile.

Poke Bowl – Ahi tuna, Jasmine rice, candied pickled jalapenos, cucumber, red onion, Wasabi aioli, sweet soy. This was my favorite of all the dishes I tried. The tuna was marinated and had good flavor, the veggies were fresh, and I really enjoyed the candied pickled jalapenos, sweet with a little heat! The sweet soy over the top provided additional flavor to the jasmine rice.

Smash Burger – 4 oz beef patty, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, Sailfish sauce, and served with French fries. While “technically” it doesn’t meet my criteria for a true “smash burger”, it’s still a really great hamburger. In my opinion, a good hamburger is only as good as the fries served with it, and these are spectacular! They are shoe-string style and were crispy and salty, just the way I like them!

""
Fried PB&J Ala Mode – Peanut butter & Jelly sandwich is deep fried and topped with strawberry & chocolate sauce, vanilla ice cream. If you are like me, I grew up eating peanut butter & jelly sandwiches all the time, so when I saw this on the menu, I had to give it a try! Yes, it’s as indulgent as it looks and was fried till crispy on the edges, yet still soft and gooey in the middle. Just order one, you know you want to try it! 😉
