Mrs Mac’s Fillin Station Restaurant Review – Vero Beach, FL

Last week I stepped into a bygone era and experienced the charm of a forgotten time at Mrs. Mac’s Fillin’ Station. Located at 951 Old Dixie Hwy, this old-timey filling station-themed restaurant offers a unique dining experience that will transport you back to the heyday of classic automobiles and Route 66.

Upon entering, I was greeted with the warm smiles of “Punch Buggy” and “Harley,” dressed in vintage mechanics’ overalls and caps. The restaurant’s interior is a delightful blend of retro decor, with fuel pumps, vintage signage, and automotive memorabilia adorning the walls. The attention to detail is astonishing; every element contributes to the nostalgic atmosphere.

The menu at Mrs. Mac’s Diner is made from old license plates and pays homage to classic American comfort food. There for breakfast? Maybe try a Bel Air Omelette or any number of other traditional breakfast favorites. The only mistake you can make at breakfast is not ordering “Ragtops” too, as they are fresh, homemade sticky buns oozing with sticky stuff, pecans, and raisins. For lunch, the menu does not disappoint either, with a large selection of “Car Hop Specials” that feature tuna, turkey, chicken, mahi, beef sliders, etc. It was tough deciding what to try, so I ordered a few gems and the three of us did a lot of sharing.

Here’s a look at what we had to eat!

The meatloaf plate special of the day with green beans and mashed potatoes at Mrs Mac's Fillin Station restaurant located in Vero Beach Florida

The Meatloaf Plate Special of the Day – It’s truly a comfort food dish, with tender green beans, creamy mashed potatoes, and tender, well-seasoned meatloaf smothered in brown gravy.

Steak hoagie Cruiser served with a side of onion rings, the sandwich has steak and is also topped with onions, cheese, lettuce and tomato at Mrs Mac's Fillin Station restaurant located in Vero Beach Florida

Steak Hoagie Cruiser – This Philly steak had great flavor; the meat flavor really shines through on this one! Topped with sautéed onions, melted cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and a drizzle of special sauce. For me, it could have used a bit more of the sauce.

The Taco Platter from Mrs Mac's Fillin Station restaurant located in Vero Beach Florida

Taco Platter – It had been a while since I had the “Original Fritos” and I had forgotten how well they go with anything taco related! These were both pretty to look at and delicious, topped with chili, onion, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and a drizzle of house dressing. It’s heated through before being served.

Three beef sliders as served at Mrs Mac's Fillin Station restaurant located in Vero Beach Florida

Three Beef Sliders – These were voted outstanding by our table of three! Juicy, a nice balance of condiments, and a delicious sauce to round it out. Cooked medium well. I choose onion rings as my side, and they were lightly breaded, fresh tasting, and crispy. I would order them again.

Peanut Butter pie as served at Mrs Mac's Fillin Station restaurant located in Vero Beach Florida

For the “Final Lap” we choose the blue ribbon award-winning Peanut Butter Pie. It boasts a chocolate graham cookie crust, a creamy and light texture on the pie, and delicious whipped topping. They had just sold out of the Ragtops for the day, and I was pretty sad. The peanut butter pie did perk me up a bit, though! Of course, a spot like this also pays tribute to its heritage by offering a classic Root Beer Float, but those just never “float my boat.” (Pun intended!)

A photo of the owner, Miss Betty and Chef Tyler in the kitchen at Mrs Mac's Fillin Station restaurant located in Vero Beach Florida

Mrs. Mac’s does have a few fresh salad choices and vegetarian options as well. It’s safe to say there’s “something for everyone” at Mrs. Mac’s! On my way out, I snapped A quick photo of Chef Tyler and Miss Betty. “Everyone just calls her Miss Betty,” Punch Buggy says. “It’s just that kind of special place!” I do recommend you fuel up your appetite and journey over to Mrs. Mac’s Fillin’ Station for a meal you won’t soon forget!
