Thai Esan Zabb Sushi Restaurant Review

This location seemed to be a revolving door when it comes to owners recently. I lost faith in it after my friend, Chef Beam no longer ran the place. I only discovered it has re-opened after driving by and seeing the new sign on the building. I got a call a few days later from my friend, Miss Saigon and she told me that she is managing the real estate and I should come and check it out.

The outside of the building hasn’t changed much other than the sign above the door, along with the lettering on the blue awning, but as you step through the door, you are instantly transported to Thailand with all the wonderful new decorations. The owner, Jutiyapond McCarthy is originally from Thailand, but before moving to Vero, she owned a successful Thai restaurant in Michigan. The reason why they moved down to Vero was to be closer to family. The restaurant felt very clean, and service was great! They are very attentive to your needs and the food came out quickly.

Now let’s dive right in and see what this place has to offer and what I had to eat!

Front Entrance – The overall look is the same as previous restaurants that occupied the space, but the sign has been updated.

Dining Room – This is the most drastic change from previous owners, they have really redecorated nicely!

Bubble Tea – It’s a very popular Asian drink from Taiwan that consists of tea accompanied by chewy tapioca balls, hence the oversized straw to eat them with. It’s served slightly frozen, allow it to thaw a little bit before drinking. The flavor of this one was black milk tea.

Crab Rangoon – Cream cheese, crab meat, carrot & onion are placed inside a wonton wrapper and fried till crispy. These are one of my favorite appetizers, I love the cream cheese and crab mixture, very rich, but also very delicious too!

Sushi & Sashimi Lunch Special – This lunch “plate” included both sushi and sahsami, along with a salad with ginger dressing. This was a nice variety for under $15. Everything was freshly prepared and quite tasty!

Chicken Fried Rice – This is what I like to call Chinese “Hamburger Helper” and it’s one of my mom & dad’s favorite dishes. Mom said it was quite delicious and a very healthy portion with lots of chicken in it. She even had leftovers to take home for the next day. I had a small bite and thought the rice was cooked perfectly, and not over seasoned.

Pad See Eew – This is one of my wife’s favorite go-to dishes she said this one didn’t disappoint! It’s a noodle dish with sauteed chicken and vegetables, served in a savory, yet slightly sweet sauce. I took a quick bite and thought it was very good, the noodles were al dente, and the chicken and veggies were plentiful. The portion sizes are always huge, she also had leftovers for the next day too!

Unagi Don Grilled Eel Rice Bowl – I always like to roll the dice and pick a different dish each time. The dish starts with a mound of rice in the bottom of the bowl, then thinly sliced grilled eel is layered over the rice and topped with seaweed and scallions. Cucumber and avocado were served alongside. The grilled eel was delicious, and the rice was nice and sticky, without being too sweet. I had them bring a side of eel sauce as a wonderful compliment to the dish.

Thai Esan Zabb Roll – The roll was made with salmon, Kani, avocado, cream cheese, asparagus, scallions, spicy mayo, and topped with Masago and was beautifully presented on a raised board. Everything was super fresh and had great flavor! I’m extremely happy that we FINALLY have another great option for sushi in Vero Beach at this location again!
