Grit Scratch Kitchen – Restaurant Review

I’m always on the lookout for new locally owned restaurants, so you know I had to reach out these guys and schedule a visit! It’s located in a medical building complex off of 37th and very close to Indian River Blvd. Owners, Andrea Beasley and her husband Chef Mike, moved to the area about 8 years ago. Chef Mike has worked at a few other restaurants in town, but the dream was to run his own kitchen someday, and they made that happen on December 1st. Don’t let the location fool you, what they are serving here is definitely not cafeteria style or hospital food. It’s elevated southern style breakfast and lunch, and it’s amazing! They get a fair amount of foot traffic from people stopping by for doctors appointments, but the majority of their business comes from the medical staff working in the building. Several other restaurants have occupied this space previously, one of which I’m sure you are familiar with is Mrs. Mac’s Fillin’ Station. As you enter the medical park, you will notice a sign near the street that just says “Restaurant” on it, so it leaves you kind of wondering. Having never been in this complex before, I got lost. I parked at the back and walked through the entire building and finally came across it near the front. I’ve included a map below to help you find it so you don’t get lost like I did.

Now let’s jump right in and see what this place has to offer and what I had to eat!

Location in the Medical Building. The green square over the building is the approximate location of the restaurant. I recommend you park in one of the green areas highlighted on the map. You can also park inside the garage too, I believe it’s free.

Front Entrance – There is an atrium directly across from the restaurant

Traditional Eggs Benedict – Country Ham, Poached Eggs, Hollandaise, and topped with Chives on an English Muffin. Smoked Gouda Grits were served alongside. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the hollandaise was expertly prepared! The grits were fabulous, they were light and airy with a subtle smoky flavor from the gouda.

Crème Brule French Toast – A generous portion of French toast was served with Bacon and Home Fries. The French toast was made with a good quality bread and was quite tasty! The bacon had the perfect balance of crunch and chew.

Summer Berry Salad – It’s made with field greens, red onion, blue cheese crumbles, candied walnuts, strawberries, and blueberries. Everything was super fresh and you gotta try the housemade creamy onion dressing, it’s so good!

Maryland Crab Cake Sandwich – A Maryland style crab cake was served on a Brioche bun and topped with lettuce, tomato, and a remoulade sauce. The crab cake had a good amount of crab in it, very little filler and had very good flavor. The French fries are hand cut and seasoned to perfection!
