City Cellar Wine Bar & Grill: American Dining in The Square

At the far south end of the Treasure Coast Foodies coverage area (Melbourne to West Palm, an “extended” Treasure Coast territory), you will find City Cellar in the Square in West Palm Beach. This Modern American eatery (upscale vibe, yet casual) boasts a floor-to-ceiling wine cellar that showcases fine wines from all over the world. It’s a stellar spot for a wine flight experience-a popular way to taste three different wines in half-glass pours. Sixty wines by the glass are offered, so clearly something for everyone.

The authentic brick earth oven highlights the open kitchen. On the menu, you will find dry-aged steaks, seafood, poultry, hearth-baked pizzas, cheese boards, fresh pasta, and artisan breads. The desserts are equally enticing and all house-made.

This was my second trip to City Cellar, and this time I invited Thomas Miller (the foodie guy) and his wife to double date with us on a sunny Saturday for Brunch. It’s hard to put a finger on how they pull it off, but for a large restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating, they still manage to ooze charm and comfort.

CAPRI PIZZA – This pie boasts mission fig, goat cheese, mozzarella, prosciutto, arugula, and a balsamic agro dolce. I love the sweet/savory combination of this pizza! The crust was wood-fired (my favorite) and the toppings were plentiful.

BLUE CRAB FLORENTINE ON BRIOCHE – With spinach, poached eggs, breakfast potatoes, and old bay hollandaise, it was as decadent as it sounds. The crab was sweet, and the eggs were perfectly prepared.

OMELETE OF THE DAY – This omelet had ribeye as its main feature! Moist, fluffy, and delicious! It came with breakfast potatoes and multi-grain toast.

FRESH HOUSE-MADE RIGATONI – This soul-satisfying dish is a veal and braised beef bolognese with tiny mushrooms, carrots, and parmigiano reggiano. They get all the elements right- al dente pasta, hearty sauce, and crusty bread to scrape the plate clean at the end! This is a generous portion, you will not go home hungry.

My next trip to City Cellar will be to take advantage of their Weekday Prix Fixe menu. For $35 per person (plus tax and gratuity) you get a three-course meal (starter, main, and dessert). I will save time to stroll the square, too, which houses some retail shops, a kids’ splash pad area, and a pavilion where you may even see a Spin Class in session. The parking garage is conveniently located to the Square ($8).
