Long Doggers Grill & Brew Palm Bay – Restaurant Review
How does a “radically relaxed” Grill and Brew spot sound to you? One that is consistent, delicious, with great service and very reasonable prices? If I’ve piqued your interest, make your way north just a bit to Long Doggers in Palm Bay! Here you will find both inside and outside seating that exudes a beachy, surf shack charm that instantly puts you in vacation mode. It is a local favorite, as evidenced by both times I’ve eaten there. Whether you’re a seafood enthusiast, a carnivore, or a vegetarian, there’s something for everyone. They don’t take reservations, so be aware if there’s a game on, or it’s a popular timeframe, there may be quite a few folks there! They even have a drive-up window for picking up your online order, so you don’t have to park and come inside.
Most recently, my husband and visited on a Wednesday at 4:00 pm, to beat any dinner rush. Margaret, our server, greeted us right away and was very helpful with the menu choices. Living in Vero Beach, we were happy to see some local beer on tap from American Icon Brewery. The tangerine wheat was crisp, cold, and delicious. I noticed they had restocked some of the merchandise that they sell, and I spotted on the menu that there are five other locations in Florida (Indialantic, Viera, Cocoa Beach, Satellite Beach, and Post Road.)
Here’s a peek at what we had to eat!
Banzai Shrimp Appetizer – Lightly tossed in the Banzai sauce, scallions, and served with crispy wontons and fresh pico. The shrimp were plump and the overall dish was a bit spicy but overall pretty tame.
Florida Reuben Sandwich – This is a wild-caught fried grouper with slaw, grilled pineapple, melted Swiss cheese, and Thousand Island dressing on a buttered and toasted kaiser roll. What would I change? NOTHING. Will I come back for more? DEFINITELY!
High Life Dog – All of the long dogs are all beef, char-grilled, and extra long. The High Life boasts chili, bacon, cheddar, onions, and a side of jalapeño. The bun comes buttered and toasted. This one is a “local favorite.” It’s as good as it sounds!
Johnny O Dog – This one uses a slaw and chili combo, which is quite interesting! You’ve got the refreshing, chilled slaw married up with warm chili. A truly unique pairing.
Kevo’s Key Lime Pie – This one does Florida proud, the key lime flavors were light, but
the creamy texture and the graham crust were very satisfying.
After speaking briefly with manager Ashain Fonseka, I learned that Long Doggers is a big supporter of local families and businesses. From rewarding kids for their good grades to supporting local sports teams and surf contests, it’s a big part of the overall mission. These are the types of restaurants that I like to support- good people serving great food!
