Station 49 Pizza: A Tasty and Authentic Italian Experience in Vero Beach, Florida
Sunday “Funday” this past week included wood-fired pizza, salad, wings, and dessert in a classy, converted gas station in a downtown neighborhood in Vero Beach. Not what you’re thinking, no old-timey signs and grungy memorabilia… quite the opposite, with a clean and modern design on the inside, and attractive outdoor dining under a large canopy for eating outside on a beautiful day.
Manager Demi Kreinbring explained she has been managing the restaurant for the last five months, as owner Chris McLaughlin launches a new location in Palm Bay. Under the same ownership is Citron Bistro in the Village Shops on the Island. Our server, Joe, was very attentive as well as friendly. He helped us decide what to try with his knowledge of the menu and ingredients. For example, he shared that the meatballs on the “The Works” pizza are house-made, using both pork and beef. Sourcing local ingredients is also a priority at Station 49. The dinner menu (from 4-9 pm daily) includes some pasta dishes, and I look forward to coming back to try some of those. From the lunch menu (from 11-4 daily) we ordered the following:
House Salad – Large enough to share, it’s a fresh, crisp mix of greens topped with colorful cherry tomatoes and thinly sliced red onion. Lightly dressed with vinaigrette. Simple but delightful!
Station House Wings – What sets these apart is the caramelized onion topping. The wings themselves were crispy on the outside, moist and tender on the inside with sweet and garlic flavors.
White Truffle Bianchi (Left) – This is a ricotta cheese, mushroom, and white truffle oil 9” wood-fired pizza. I got a side of red sauce to dip my crust in. The crust was thin with a nice chew, just the right amount of char without being burnt. The mozzarella had a nice creamy melt. I will be back for this one again!
The Works (Top & Right) – Small, crispy pepperoni, crumbled sausage, and house-made sliced meatballs atop a San Marzano tomato sauce. The sauce by itself lacks zippiness, but on this pizza, it’s what balances out all of the bold, spicy flavors from the toppings. Utterly delicious!
Cinnamon Toasted Ice Cream Sandwich with Caramel Sauce – House-made creation that is a winner! They use brioche buns to create the cookie, and the cinnamon ice cream is beautiful.
Warm Chocolate Brownie with Vanilla Bean Gelato – What you’re picturing, yes… a delicious classic! Station 49 will remain on my permanent rotation list! Give them a try!
