Twisted Lime Restaurant Review – Vero Beach FL

The Twisted Lime Restaurant & Bar is the newest addition to owner Gary Sofen’s portfolio of restaurants, two of which you may be familiar: 2nd Street Bistro, and Island Beach Bar & Restaurant, both located in Ft. Pierce. Its unique flair boasts a fusion of Latin and Southern dishes, while also offering up a hearty list of cocktail and spirit options. The wine and beer drinkers are, of course, taken care of as well with many different options. You may choose indoor seating or outside patio bar seating, and the place is large enough to also have a separate tasting room. I went there twice in the last week, as I took a different group the second time, and wanted to try both the inside and the outside seating. The painted murals on the walls are fun and cheery, and everything looks quite clean and well-kept. I preferred the patio vibe because it wasn’t as loud and bright.

The Atmosphere

The most important thing, however, is the food and the service, so let’s dig into that! The first visit on Wednesday went smoothly- our server Jacqueline took good care of us, and we enjoyed our margaritas and food very much (pics to follow)! Friday night there were a couple of hiccups, but as with any new restaurant, it takes time to smooth things out. Now, on to the food, because we had some fabulous dishes that we all shared!

The Food & Drink

House margarita as prepared by Twisted Lime Restaurant & Bar in Vero Beach, Florida

House Margarita – This was truly a delicious margarita. I can’t say it packed much of a punch (if you care about that, maybe order a double?!) but it was smooth without being too sweet or too tart. Comes in a short glass, I’d prefer a taller one so it doesn’t disappear so fast!

Empanadas as prepared by Twisted Lime Restaurant & Bar in Vero Beach, Florida

Empanadas – A very attractive appetizer with a lot of flavor! The ground beef filling was moist, and well seasoned, with a golden brown outside which gave it a nice crunch. The jalapeño cilantro aioli sauce was delicious, and the cabbage bed gave it a freshness that contrasted the empanada itself beautifully. Three to an order, it can be an entree all on its own.

buffalo cauliflower bites as prepared by Twisted Lime Restaurant & Bar in Vero Beach, Florida

Buffalo Cauliflower – A crispy cauliflower tossed in buffalo sauce appetizer, it was on point with its topping of fresh scallions, and bleu cheese or ranch dipping sauce.

Smoky Mountain Pork Bowl as prepared by Twisted Lime Restaurant & Bar in Vero Beach, Florida

Smoky Mountain Pork Bowl – How awesome is this? Whiskey-infused shredded pork, generously coated in a rich sauce stole the show with its smoky sweetness. Accompanied by creamy mac n cheese, baked beans, and crowned with a crunchy ensemble of crispy French fried onions, it was as good as it sounds. The addition of the Alabama white sauce provided a zesty little kick. We will go back for this dish again, I guarantee it!

Memphis BBQ Flatbread as prepared by Twisted Lime Restaurant & Bar in Vero Beach, Florida

Memphis BBQ Flatbread – I chose to upgrade to a cauliflower crust on this one, and I’m glad I did. Adorned with succulent pork and savory BBQ sauce, a melty blend of mozzarella and cheddar cheeses, diced red onions, and a white sauce drizzle that provided a creamy contrast to this dish. It tastes both modern and deliciously familiar at the same time.

I am a retired school teacher who recently relocated from Denver with my husband, Curt. One of our favorite things to do is try new restaurants. The Treasure Coast does not disappoint!
