Joey & Kimmy’s Seafood Market & Restaurant Review

Joey’s Seafood Shack has been in business for well over a decade in Vero Beach. On their 10th anniversary, the owners decided it was time for a change. In March of 2020, proprietors Joey Fenyak and Kimmy Convey officially changed the name to Joey & Kimmy’s Seafood Market & Restaurant. Both hailing from New York, Joey got his start in the seafood business at the young age of 12 years old. He would dig for clams on Lake Ronkonkoma, and he would sell them at the famous Fulton Fish Market. Kimmy has always been in the restaurant and entertainment business for most of her life, so it seems as if their partnership was a perfect match. When they first opened the business, they only had one fish case, two tables, and a piano. Over the years, as word got out, their business has flourished into what it is today.

Located right off of US Hwy 1 in Vero Beach, the outside of the building isn’t much to look at and I’m sure you have driven past it several times and haven’t given it a second thought. Once inside, that changes everything. The majority of the inside is a specialty market with fresh seafood, prepared dishes, wine, and lots of other goodies to temp your taste buds! The remaining floor space is an intimate 25 seat white tablecloth restaurant with quite a diverse menu that includes seafood and a variety of Italian dishes. They serve lunch Monday – Saturday until 4:30pm. and dinner service is every few weeks by invitation only.

Please Note: The portion size of the dishes in this review do not represent what you will receive when dining at the restaurant. I was served tasting portions so I could experience several different dishes from their menu during my visit.

Now let’s dive right in and see what this place has to offer and what I had to eat!

Back Entrance – Visible from US 1 when heading north. The main entrance is actually on the other side of the building.
Seafood Market and Dining Room
Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes -These classically prepared crab cakes were simply delicious! The crab was super fresh, and they were fried till they achieved that golden brown crust.
Baked Clams Oreganato – This was my first time trying this dish, and it won’t be my last! They were baked to perfection! The clams were tender and had a wonderful garlic and oregano flavors, The crust had a little crunch when taking a bite.
Haddock Francaise – As you might expect from a restaurant that is also a fish market, the haddock was impeccably fresh. It was coated lightly with flour and pan fried. The lemon, butter sauce was rich and flavorful!
A Selection of their Dessert Offerings – Tiramisu and Baklava.
