Sweet Kiss Restaurant Review 2022

While we all know and love Sweet Kiss for all of their delicious gelato and wonderful desserts, did you know that the owner, Livia Sorger is from Hungary and is now making homemade Hungarian dishes right here in Vero Beach? I found a post on Facebook where Livia went into detail about her heritage and experience with food growing up, so I decided to share that with you here.

“I grew up in Budapest in a family where food was life, and not just Hungarian food. We respect and adore other cuisines just as much as ours, so when I learned how to make a Spanish potato tortilla in a Spanish-Hungarian high school at the age of 14 I fell in love with it, and I still make it that way when I crave it. Our international team of teachers widened our horizons by showing us different versions of every Hispanic dish at civilization class since we had teachers from Spain and several Latin American countries. About this particular dish, I have multiple reasons why I don’t make it in a frying pan. The first one is very practical, my burners I ordered months ago are still sitting in Miami port waiting for US customs. The second one is because I wanted to stuff it with cheese and ham, so I didn’t want to flip it. And having this business gives me the liberty of expressing my deep desire of showing our community the variety of my favorite European dishes and enrich the foodie culture of Vero Beach. Once my burners arrived and I started cooking Hungarian dishes I will do the same, take the dish and make it my version of it without disrespecting the culture. I’m definitely prepared for comments that my food isn’t authentic, but I believe that elevating a certain dish is not a crime, but a way to be innovative. And I must be true to myself, that’s what authenticity means to me. I hope that this will give you all a better understanding of who I am and why do I do things my way.” What a great story! This is my first time trying Hungarian food, so I was excited for the opportunity!

Now let’s dive right in and see what this place has to offer and what I had to eat!

Front Entrance – They recently moved and are now facing 21st Street and are between Vero Beach Dry Cleaners and Chive.
Place your order here, check out all the gelato flavors, or have a seat at the bar.
Lentil Soup with Smoked Pork Hocks – Anything with pork hocks in it gets my attention. This is a seasonal dish and is thought to bring wealth to those that eat it. While I’m still waiting for my check to arrive in the mail, I definitely felt richer for having tried this soup. It contained large chunks of smoky pork hocks and the lentils were nice and tender. I highly recommend you squeeze lemon over the top before taking a bite.
Cranberry & Pecan Chicken Salad – Made with spinach and romaine, this salad is topped with cranberries, walnuts, and grilled chicken. The citrus mustard vinaigrette dressing is housemade and tastes similar to a honey mustard dressing. You can choose either the rosemary olive oil bread or the gluten free crackers with it, or a combination of both.
Sardine Salad Dip – This can be served one of two ways, as a dip as you can see above, or they can make it into a sandwich. It’s served with a side salad and gluten free crackers. You can also order it as a meal with a bag of chips and a drink too.
Chicken Paprikash – Bone in chicken is stewed for hours to make it tender and flavorful, then served over housemade egg noodles. Livia makes it fresh every day and hand cuts all the noodles. Seasoning is kept to a minimum for those who are sensitive to sodium, but they do provide additional seasoning so you can add it to your own personal taste.
Spanish Tortilla – Potato, eggs, mozzarella cheese, and black forest ham. It’s also known as a Spanish omelet and is best served at room temperature. It’s topped with sour cream that has a little bit of Cyanne pepper in it. This is just one of those dishes that looks exactly light I thought it would taste even before taking a bite. I mean, what’s not to like about potatoes, eggs, ham and cheese?
